Hello there, and welcome to the very first edition of the Better Habits Health Coaching newsletter. I’m so excited to share my evidence-based recommendations for nutrition, exercise, stress reduction, and healthy sleep. I’ll also include some yummy recipes, book recommendations, and podcasts to listen to. Feel free to share this with your friends and family and anyone interested in building healthy habits that will last a lifetime.

Firstly, a bit about me…..

I have always been interested in health and the human body. Growing up I was a competitive swimmer, which then led me to play Water Polo at a national level. At University I also joined the triathlon team, and worked towards completing an ironman triathlon, which I achieved in 1997. I graduated from Macquarie University with a Masters Degree in Chiropractic in 1997, and soon after moved to the Central Coast where my husband Ron and I established Kariong Chiropractic. Our children were born in 2002 and 2006.

In 2008 I completed a post-graduate diploma in Clinical Nutrition, and in 2012 we moved our practice to its present location and established Better Health Practices, combining massage, acupuncture, counselling and podiatry with our Chiropractic clinic under the one roof.

I spent a few years looking for the next learning opportunity to help my clients. In 2018 I joined the Australasian Society for Lifestyle Medicine (ASLM) and became a board-certified Fellow of Lifestyle Medicine in 2019. Lifestyle Medicine focuses on the 4 pillars of health - diet, exercise, stress, and sleep and implements evidenced-based lifestyle strategies to improve health and prevent disease.

Since 2020 I have been offering health coaching services through my new venture Better Habits Health Coaching. I have also turned to ultra-marathon trail running and adventure racing. I’ve run four 100km ultra-marathons since 2020, and I’m currently in training for a 12-hour adventure race that combines trail running, mountain biking, and kayaking. I’ll let you know how it goes!

I am still as passionate about health as when I started my professional career. I particularly enjoy helping women navigate the transition into peri-menopause and menopause.

EASY BREAKFAST RECIPE

Drizzle 2 portobello mushrooms with olive oil and pop them under the grill for a couple of minutes. Then sprinkle them with grated parmesan cheese and a few pine nuts or slivered almonds and grill for another couple of minutes. Enjoy immediately.
